Many thoughts about blogs

Today I have a whole slew of stuff related to blogs, so I'm breaking from my normal format and putting them all in one post.

First, from T. L. Pakii Pierce of How To Blog For Fun & Profit!, is an article about Blog Commenting Etiquette and considers when it is acceptable to leave a comment and when to leave a link. For publishers T.L. suggests posting an acceptable use policy.

Meanwhile, over at Blog Business World, Wayne Hurlbert examines how frequently to post to your blog. He acknowledges that much depends on the blog and the author, but recommends a minimum of three posts a week. I would add that it's probably better not to post, than it is to make a low quality post just for the sake of it.

Another recent post from Wayne looks at blogger to blogger interviews and highlights a number of blogs that do this. Wayne sees this technique as a good way to share ideas about blogging, and also as a means of introducing readers to new blogs.

Amy Gahran writes in Contentious an article about how fun tagging is. Personally I don't get it, and can only think that this form of meta data will quickly become unusable due to spamming, just like the keywords tag in webpages is barely used by search engines. I can't help but think I have missed something about these tags, and can't wait for Amy to write the article she is promising titled What is Tagging and Why Should You Care?

Finally on Common Craft, Lee LeFever has written a great article about how bloggers listen to one another using RSS feeds. I was initially panicked by the thoughts of RSS assimilating bloggers into something like the Borg Collective, but this article actually takes a good look at services Technorati, PubSub and Feedster which index and disseminate information about the blogosphere. Still, I can't help but wonder where blogging will lead our society.
